Property Crimes - Felony

Property crimes that are felonies in North Carolina range from the very serious, involving large amounts of money AND an element of deceit or trickery against the victim, to the less serious, those that involve only one of those elements.

  • Something as simple as getting a soda from a cooler at a convenience store while working there and forgetting to pay for it can be seen as a felony.
  • Trying to return items to a store to get a refund or store credit that you know are not the same items purchased at an earlier time can also be charged as a felony.

In defending these types of crimes, the solutions are often as varied as the crimes themselves and the secret is in forecasting what either an assistant district attorney or a jury would say in response to various facts or circumstances. That ability to forecast comes with experience - the experience of having taken these cases to trial. We have done that.

People will try to get you to admit to things that you did, or sometimes even things you didn't do, to set up a charge. The words they use and choose may vary but they will often be accompanied by promises of "we're not going to charge you, this is just for internal use." They're lying.

Whether it's a loss prevention officer, a relative, a boss, or even a police officer, you should say nothing until you have spoken with a lawyer experienced in matters such as these.

We have helped people avoid charges in these instances many times.

The next time you or a loved one find yourself in a "whoops" situation that has led to

being investigated or charged with this type of crime, speak to the experienced lawyers at

Remington Law Firm, PLLC before you speak with anyone else.
